Everything you need to know about EXPO 2020

09/05/2021 - 4 minute read

EXPO 2020 is the World Exhibition that will be in Dubai, UAE from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. It's the first of its kind hosted by an Arab country. EXPO 2020 aims to help shape the world post-pandemic.

First things first, Why is EXPO 2020 still called EXPO 2020? 🤔

Despite being postponed to 2021 -for obvious reasons-, the organizers kept the name EXPO 2020 for marketing and branding purposes. It's the first time that a World Expo has been postponed to a later date instead of just being canceled. And despite the emotional rollercoaster that is 2020, let's be honest - it still sounds better than 2021 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Ok, so what is EXPO 2020? 😎

Dubai EXPO 2020 is a so-called ‘World Fair'. The World fair is a large international exposition designed to showcase the achievements of different nations. These expositions vary in setup and are held in different parts of the world for a specific period of time.

Some of the most iconic landmarks in the world are an inheritance of previous World Expos. What do you think of the Eiffel Tower in France? Yup, the Eiffel Tower was built as the main attraction of the 1889 World Exhibition in Paris and was actually not meant to last!

But there are more, maybe not as well known as the Eiffel Tower, but surely as iconic: The Atomium. Built for the EXPO in Brussels in 1958, it featured the world’s fastest elevators at the time. The Space Needle. Seattle in 1962, a 185-meter-high spire, still remains a fixture of the city’s skyline.

And hopefully, after EXPO 2020 we can add UAE’s Al Wasl Plaza. The world’s largest unsupported dome is the centerpiece of EXPO 2020 and will remain after as the hub of the 2020 District.

Why is EXPO 2020 so important? 👀

Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. EXPO 2020 aims to inspire and generate sustainable solutions to global problems that demand collaboration across cultures and regions.

The sub-themes of EXPO 2020 in Dubai are OPPORTUNITY – Freeing the potential of individuals and communities to create a better future, MOBILITY – Innovative logistics, transport and communication systems for people, goods, and ideas, and SUSTAINABILITY – Accessibility and resilience of environmental, energy and water resources, define the principal drivers.

One of the initiatives that is already live is actually by our mother company, ENOC. Filling up your car may never be the same again, thanks to the Service Station of the Future, with the design inspired by the Ghaf tree. It's a sustainable and technologically advanced fuel station concept. So when visiting the EXPO site, make sure to fuel up at the Station of the Future!

Why should I visit EXPO 2020? ✌️

Firstly, of course, because you'd like to tell your children that you were there. Imagine your grandparents telling you they were one of the first to visit the Eiffel Tower! But for real..

Furthermore, there are multiple restaurants and entertainment options, such as concerts, with everything from opera to A-listers, pop-up theatres to flash mobs, and parades to national day celebrations. Check out the experiences that are on when you’re planning to visit.
